The economy – environment – energy balance sheet
Choose to save
Retreaded tyres are cheaper than comparable new tyres.
Price comparison reveals that retreads offer a major cost saving over new tyres. Italians who choose retreads save approximately 270 million euros a year (data courtesy of Airp).
Savings benefit end users as well as the whole country. Tyre retreading saves around 70% on raw materials. Italy’s average yearly savings on oil and other strategic prime materials such as synthetic rubber, carbon black, textile fibers, steel and copper amount to 160 million liters and 46,000 tons respectively.
Furthermore, retreading gives a contribution of over 70 million euros to Italy’s national income, thanks to exports of retreads and retreading materials.
Choose to save the environment
Retreads reduce waste tyre disposal.
Tyre replacement in the EU yearly translates into an estimated 225 million used tyres, in addition to millions of ELV-derived used tyres. Their impact on the environment creates a serious problem: a dumped tyre takes almost 100 years to fully deteriorate. Tyre retreading reduces waste tyre production and slows the flow of used tyres. Thanks to the retreading process, some 46,000 tons of used tyres are kept out of the environment every year.
